Welcome to the Texas State University chapter of The Wildlife Society. The society is composed of graduate and undergraduate students with varied interests and majors that come together to discuss wildlife issues, create educational opportunities for the public about wildlife, educate ourselves and have fun. We invite all majors to join our society and help us become more diverse and gain new perspective. Thanks to everyone who helped sell tickets and everyone who supported the Wildlife Society by purchasing a ticket! 2009 Best Member Award We will be offering a $500 Scholarship to be awarded to the most active and determined member of the Texas State Student Chapter Member. The winner will be decided in December. Click here for more information or to apply. 2009 Quiz Bowl Congratulations to our team for finalizing in the Championship round at the annual Quiz Bowl Competition. Quiz Bowl 2010 is just around the corner and we need interested people to start getting involved! The earlier the better! If you are interested please contact Dr. Weckerly or a current officer for more information. Volunteer Work Participating in volunteer work helps to unite the members of the wildlife society. It is also a great way to help the community and let people know what we are all about. If you ever donate your time to volunteering, please fill out an event form and have someone you helped sign it. Turn in event forms to Dr. Simpson, in Supple 234, or contact our President, Alayne Fronimos. Wildlife Certification We will soon be posting more info regarding Wildlife Certification through the Wildlife Society. Until then, please contact Dr. Simpson for more information. Lockhart State Park Outdoor Lab Lockhart Volunteer dates for the Fall will be posted when available. The wildlife society has committed to have a volunteer for each lab. | Mission The mission of The Wildlife Society is to enhance the ability of wildlife professionals to conserve diversity, sustain productivity, and ensure responsible use of wildlife resources for the benefit of society. This mission is implemented through five goals: 1. Advocate the use of sound biological, social, and economic information in making wildlife policy decisions. 2. Enhance the knowledge and technical capabilities of wildlife professionals. 3. Increase public awareness and appreciation of wildlife conservation and the wildlife profession. 4. Promote professional standards for wildlife research, education, and management. 5. Recognize the professional stewardship of wildlife. | |
