Wetlands Are Wonderous
H O M E

While the federal and state governments have done much in the way of protecting wetlands by regulating their usage or by designating wetland areas as refuges, there is still much that can and needs to be done by the general public.

Close to 75% of the wetlands in the United States are under private ownership, so the importance of landowners cannot be stressed more. Private landowners can now receive federal aid by incorportating the Wetlands Reserve Program on their lands, (sponsored by the National Resource Conservation Service). Even if you do not own wetland property, there are numerous opportunities to get involved in saving wetlands both at the federal level and with your local community, such as the Aquarena Center.
