Alcohol Burners

Guidelines

1. Purchase ones w/ a low center of gravity

2. Only teachers refill the burner

3. Never refill during class

4. Refill under a hood

5. Add a trace of sodium choride to alcohol (if it is not already present) to make flame more visible

6. Clamp burners securely in place or use ones that can't tip over

7. Have a properly fitting metal cap to extinguish the flame

8. Use all other standard precautions for heating w/ an open flame

9. DO NOT heat flammable liquids w/ an alcohol burner.
