Myrtle

Myrtle was a large (101 lbs.) male alligator snapping turtle given to Dr. Francis Rose to be used in the educational and interpretive displays at Spring Lake and the Wetlands Restoration Project.

Myrtle was known to have been in captivity in 1944, and he was relatively large at that time. He was thought to be a female by his owners, thus the name Myrtle, but females rarely exceed 50 pounds.
