Metaphase

The appearance of the spindle, a framework for nuclear division composed of bundles of microtubules, marks the beginning of the second stage of mitosis, known as metaphase. During metaphase, the chromosomes move and line up across the equatorial region of the cell, with each chromosome attached by its centromere to the spindle fibers.
