Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms and their effects on other organisms. The studies conducted here also examine
the principles of morphology, anatomy, physiology, and taxonomy of representative groups of organisms.
Specific studies examine communitites of bacteria living in slime-encased biofilm. This biofilm is the dominant form of growth of bacteria
in the world and so far, little is known of them. A related study is investigating the effects of the lyogenic bacterium
Janthinobacterium lividium in biofilm communities.
Microbiology here at Texas State also addresses the ecology of microbial populations in aquatic and terrestrial environments,
invertebrate-microorganism interactions, and the role of microorganisms in bioremediation of contaminants.
