Cellular and Molecular Biology

Cellular and Molecular Biology at Texas State

Cellular biology, simply, is the study of cells and how they work. In the specific, cellular biologists investigate physiological properties, the cellular life cycle and reproduction, and their components. The field also includes examining the environment in which cells reside, as well as intercellular interactions.

Molecular biology is somewhat more broad, and is essentially biology studies at the molecular level. Molecular biologists study interactions among the components of the cell, particularly including the actions and relations of DNA and protein synthesis.

Knowing the mechanics and make-up of a cell is a critical part of all biological sciences, and is important to all studies conducted at the Department.

Imaging and Microscopy Facility

The Imaging and Microscopy Facility (IMF) is a facility created to enhance and augment the research capabilities of the faculty. Creation of the IMF was supported in part by the National Science Foundation, and includes a Bio-Rad 1024 Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy System and a JEOL 1200 EXII Transmission Electron Microscope. The facility also includes supporting equipment and darkrooms.
