RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research focuses on how evolutionary forces affect diversification of behaviors, and how mate choice maintain species identities. To pursue these interests, I combine behavioral manipulations and observations across populations to examine the interaction of gene flow with the variation in behavior.

I also focus on more complicated mating systems in which species mate multiply and store sperm as with many species of livebearing fish and salamanders. To examine these questions I employ both behavioral and genetic based experiments. These areas of research have also lead me down divergent paths in behavioral ecology such as parent-offspring kin discrimination and social interactions between species. My previous work on social behavior in salamander territorial systems provides a basis for further exploration.
