Students in my lab study mate choice using behavioral and genetics based experiments in vertebrate systems with multiple mating and sperm storage. Most of our research focuses on a unisexual-bisexual species complex of live bearing fish from the angle of species and mate-quality recognition. Additionally, students are working with the San Marcos Salamander, a threatened species endemic to the San Marcos River. They have started to accumulate behavioral data that can be used for important conservation decisions.
